An Assessment of the strategies implemented to increase food production. A case of Mucheri village ward 7 in Zvimba district

This study aims to investigate into the adaptation strategies implemented to increase food security in Mucheri Village, Ward 7 of Zvimba District. In this study 50 household heads, 7 key informants were selected to participate in the study. Questionnaires, interviews and focus group discussions were used to acquire data from the respondents. The research used Excel to analyse data through the use of graphs and tables to illustrate food production levels and the strategies that were implemented in the community.. The strategies adopted include drought resistant crops, agriculture technology, use of agriculture information, small and medium enterprise, the results show that with the adoption strategies implemented in the community, there has been an increase in food production from 2013 to 2017, which has been lessened poverty and reduced issues of social disruption. This study concludes that the most adopted strategies are use of agricultural technologies, drought resistant crops, non-agricultural activities and agriculture information, awareness campaigns from the Environmental Management Agency(EMA), means of production such credit and loans from the Agribank and CARE International. The study shows that food production has increased over the trends thus showing that there The main recommendation of the study is that government and/or nongovernmental interventions must be encouraged in order to build capacity to reduce issues of food insecurities which results in the deterioration of the social structure as much as the economic activities which contribute to the GDP of the country at large. There is need for conduction of workshops such that the community is able to understand the changes.
