An Exploration on the Impact of Municipal Service Delivery on Residences Health Security in Bindura Town
This research sought to explore the impact of municipal service delivery on residences health security in Bindura town. Structured questionnaires were utilized to gather required information from informants. These informants comprised of 15 residences, 10 Local authorities from Bindura municipality, 3 stakeholders from department of health and 2 Chipadze ward councilors. Qualitative approach was used to present data in narrative form. A case study research design was used. Challenges affecting service delivery were unveiled and these include financial constrains, lack of cooperation by residences, revenue collection, power cuts among others .These challenges were seen to impact negatively on residences health security. Outbreaks of diarrheal disease such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery and others prove to be a result of, and exacerbated by poor municipal service delivery. The research managed to gather a combination of strategies that can be considered by Bindura municipality to enhance service delivery. These include creation of agencies, increasing citizen participation, monitoring performance, increasing revenue collection, technological advancement, flexible response to clients and proper waste management. Several recommendations were given that Bindura municipality has to source for funding, partnering with other organizations, collect refuse regularly, provide proper vending shelters, improve water and sanitation, improve health facilities and others. They were cited to influence service delivery so as to reach satisfactory levels that are expected by residences.
