Urban agriculture and its implication on the environment and food security. A case of Bindura Urban

This study is an analysis on the implication of urban agriculture to the environment and food security in Bindura town. The study aims to found the contribution of urban agriculture to the food security of urban residents. It also establishes how urban agriculture impacts the environment. A number of techniques were employed to gather useful and relevant data including observations and questionnaires. The findings of the study confirmed that urban agriculture plays a big role in urban resident’s food security and has both negative and positive impacts to the environment. Recommendation are made to the government and local authority to support urban agriculture through permanent allocation of land, inclusion of urban agriculture in urban policy as well as the imposition of penalties for those who cultivate on fragile ecosystems such as wetlands.
