Adoption of health insurance in Marondera urban

The study explored on the adoption of health insurance in Marondera urban. The reason being the town has been experiencing cumbersome health care problems and some individuals have sought for remedies and health insurance is amongst them. Hence the need to determine awareness of health insurance, to establish customer satisfaction of the health insured, identify customer perception of health insurance and determine attitude towards health insurance was a necessity so as to discern the adoption of health insurance in Marondera urban. The study employed a descriptive research design which was quantitative and qualitative in nature. A sample size comprising 382 households of Marondera urban was used by the researcher. The questionnaire was personally-administered; this enabled proper answering and clarity of ambiguity. In order to have a maximum response rate, the questionnaires were self distributed on a Sunday. A question by question analysis technique was used to analyse the data. An empirical test on the relationship, SPSS and regression analysis was employed to test the hypotheses.The findings of the study clearly acknowledged that there was no significant adoption of health insurance although individuals were aware of health insurance systems. This was attributed to the fact that there was no customer satisfaction of the health insured, individuals had negative perception and attitude of health insurance. The recommendations were that health insurance firms should educate the residents on the benefits and functions of health insurance so as to re-formulate their attitude and perception. Health insurance firms can improve customer satisfaction through proper and equal distribution of the service. The government should regulate the service delivery of health insurance companies and also improve on the healthcare infrastructure.
